Hawaii 2013, Thursday Nov 7

Hawaii 2013

Our travel group consists of Scott and I, Mike and Sherrie Webb, Orvil and Patti, and Patti's sister Deanna and her husband Gregg.

Left on Delta Wednesday, November 6, 2013, at noon. 6 1/2 hr flight. Good flight. Got rental vans and went straight to Costco and bought some groceries. Then ate at a little joint called L& L Hawaiian BBQ. Pretty good.

Drove in the dark to Turtle Bay. 1 1/2 hours or so. Like our condo.

Thursday morning. Went for a short walk on golf course with Sherrie. Beautiful.

Went to nearby beach. Snorkeling not very good. I didn't even get in. But the waves and atmosphere were wonderful.

Went to Sunset Beach and watched some surfers, and then we went to the pipeline beach to watch the waves crash right next to the shore.

Pipeline Beach
Then we spent the rest of the day at the Polynesian Cultural Ctr. Scott got a turn on stage playing the drums. Very fun. Good food at the luau. Very good evening performance, but I was too tired to really enjoy it. Wouldn't mind going back to catch what I missed first time.

Hawaii 2013, Friday, Nov 8th

Friday morning we left around 7 and took the road to the other side of the island to go snorkeling in Hanauma Bay. Scott and I rented some gear and it was really fun. Lots and lots of pretty fish.

We ate lunch at a bigger burger place that was really good, saw Eternity Beach where they filmed From Here to Eternity and a blowhole.

Made our way back to the condo, which took forever because of traffic and an accident with a school bus and a garbage truck. That night Scott and I went for a lovely walk through Turtle Bay Hotel and down to the beach. It rained on us the last couple of minutes. We made smoothies for dinner. Played some cards. Another fun day.

Hawaii 2013, Sat./Sun Nov 9-10

Saturday morning we woke up to a good amount of rain, so instead of the planned snorkeling, we went to the temple and did a session instead. The temple grounds are just beautiful! The session was pretty full. They don't have very big rooms. It was nice to be there.

Then we ate at a joint called Kahuku Grill. We all agreed it was very good. Loved the seafood platter.

Then we went to Haliewa and did some shopping. We had shaved ice at Matsumoto's... Way over-rated. Fun.

After that we drove to try to find the Lost beach. Molukelia. We found it,but didn't walk quite on the right one.

Sunday we went to the 10:00 church just down the road a bit in Kahuku. They are all so very nice and friendly here. It's fun how they say aloha and everyone repeats it back. Some of the men wear funny skirt looking things. We went to all three meetings, and then came home and threw together a yummy salad for lunch.

We called and talked to the kids. Then we went for a windy walk along the beach. For supper we had chicken enchiladas. We all chipped in food and gathered together for the meals today. Fun.

Hawaii 2013, Monday Nov 11

Monday we went to Waimea Falls and Botanical Gardens. The gardens were the best part. There was every plant, bush and tree imaginable.  Very pretty.

Cannonball Tree
It was quite rainy as we started out, but then it cleared up and was really nice. The falls at the end of the walk were nice, but the water wasn't inviting as it was quite brown.

Then we went to Sharks Cove and did some snorkeling for a bit. It was ok. I didn't see much, but the others did. Scott didn't get in.

Below is Sherrie Webb's video

Then we went and sat on the beach at Waimea. Lots of people playing in the surf.

We ate lunch that day at Cholo's in Haliewa. I had some good fish tacos.

At Sunset Beach we watched the sun set. Very fun.

For dinner Scott and I stayed home and had leftovers, and then went for a short walk.
